Voici ce qu'écrivait Damon Knight en 1965 dans son introduction au recueil "13 Histoires Françaises de Science-fiction"

C'est en 1959 que j'ai découvert plus ou moins par hasard l'existence d'un magazine de Science Fiction français appelé Fiction qui publiait régulièrement d'excellents récits. Depuis quand ce magazine existait-il? Je m'empressais d'acquérir plusieurs numéros antérieurs, commençais une correspondance avec des auteurs et  les éditeurs, découvrais d'autres oeuvres remarquables et me demandais finalement pourquoi aucune de ces nouvelles n'avaient jamais fait l'objet d'une traduction en Anglais. J'ai, en définitive, procédé moi même à ces traductions et 6 années plus tard en voici le résultat.
Je suis fier de ce livre comme si j'en étais l'auteur. Mais tout le mérite en revient à Maurice Renault l'homme qui créa Fiction en 1953 comme l'édition
française de "The Magazine of Fantasy & Science-fiction". Sous son impulsion  et celle de son rédacteur en chef, Alain Dorémieux, ils encouragèrent plusieurs auteurs français à écrire pour la revue. 
Aujourd'hui (1965) Fiction en est à sa 13è année d'existence et peut être considéré comme l'un des magazines mondiaux de Science-fiction le plus actif. Bien que la majorité des récits publiés sont issus du Fantasy & Science-fiction américain, des oeuvres d'une équipe d'une vingtaine d'auteurs français paraissent régulièrement dont au moins une douzaine peuvent soutenir la comparaison avec leurs collègues américains.
